Video to MP4 conversion not working

Fixes for the problems you are most likely to hit in the converter.

The tool says the file cannot be read

The file may be damaged, incomplete, or protected with DRM. Check that it plays in a media player first. Files from streaming services and copy-protected discs cannot be converted.

The file is too large

The limit is 500 MB per file. The browser keeps the converted file in memory, so a long video at high resolution can run out of memory before the limit. Try a smaller resolution, trim the video in an editor first, or use a desktop converter such as FFmpeg or HandBrake for very large files.

The conversion stops or the page reloads

This usually means the browser ran out of memory, which is common on phones. Close other tabs and try again on a computer, or pick a smaller resolution.

It is very slow

Re-encoding runs on the processor without hardware help. Pick Automatic: when the file already uses H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, the tool copies the streams in seconds. Otherwise, a lower resolution speeds things up.

The MP4 has no sound or will not play on my TV

Some devices accept only H.264 video with AAC audio. Choose Re-encode for maximum compatibility.

The download does not start

Allow downloads for this site in your browser, or use the Download MP4 button again. The file exists only until you close the page or choose another file, so download before leaving.

I pasted a YouTube link and nothing downloads

That is by design. This site does not download from YouTube. See how to download your own YouTube video.
